Gosh, where do I begin?
From a young age, I've always struggled with my weight. My mum says that at
birthday parties whilst everyone else was on the bouncy castle, that I would be sat eating cheese balls and party rings at the buffet table on my own.
When I was 15 years old, I decided to go on a grapefruit diet. Yes, thats right. Where you eat a grapefruit instead of a meal, for every meal, for a week. My mum received a phone call as I had become very dizzy and couldn't remember who I was. I wanted to lose weight and fit in with my 'perfect' body friends so much that I spent a night in hospital.
In my teens I went to drama school and it was the first time in my life that I began to lose weight. We danced everyday, we were busy, I was happy and I was living in London with some amazing friends I had met. Fast forward, I left drama school and I was not ready for the harsh industry that greeted me. I was stressed, unhappy and putting on weight fast. I tried ALL of the diets I could think of to get the weight off. Atkins, slimming world, no carbs, just carbs, high protein, no protein, keto ... you name it, I did it.
3 years later, enough was enough. I was fed up of not knowing what diet to do next so I decided to become a personal trainer to finally find out what you actually need to do to lose weight. This was a massive turning point for me. I finally was learning how to look after my body through exercise and I was learning genuine information, no fads, no lies, just facts. I loved training clients and seeing their results but there were always the clients who no matter how hard we trained, still couldn't reach their goals. Why weren't my training plans working for everyone? Why did only some people achieve their goals? What was I missing?
One day I was sat researching some nutrition courses and I came across health coaching. I had never heard of it but something inside me was telling me that this was what I was meant to do. So I used all my savings and booked myself onto the course. And that is the day my life changed forever.
As I was learning each week, my boyfriend started to notice things. He would say to me, " Wow Sophia, your skin looks amazing" or "You know you are looking so toned and happy" and I would be amazed because I wasn't on a diet, I wasn't counting calories, I wasn't stressed out training for an hour everyday... so how was I looking and feeling so amazing?
Because, weight loss isn't about what you eat. It's about how you feel about yourself, how you eat your food, how you manage stress, how you talk to yourself, who you socialise with, what you do to relax, where you go on your days off and most importantly knowing who you are and what makes you such an amazing person. Because you are.
I truly believe that health coaching is what I was born to do. I'm so passionate about creating change in women's lives because I know I can and thats a very powerful feeing.
I always say, you can spend a life time investing in FAD diets that have short term success but no real long term results OR you can invest JUST ONCE in a programme that's going to change your life forever.
